Daily Devotional

October 5

1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: - 1 John 2:1 (KJV)

John is writing to Christians (My little children), and he is telling them to not sin. In other places John said that a born again Christian can not sin (1 John 3:9), but what he is referring to is that our new Spirit of Christ that indwells us, can not commit sin, or lead us to sin, as it is truly holy (1 Peter 1:16). So being born again does not mean we won’t ever sin, as we all occasionally sin (1 John 1:8), but when we do commit a sin, it does not change our new spirit, and we remain holy in the sight of God. If you are truly born again you have had your “want to” changed, and you should now want to live for Jesus, your Lord, and try to live a holy life (1 Peter 1:15).

The wonderful thing is that when we fail and do sin, we have Jesus as our advocate with the Father, and He will tell the Father that He has already paid for your sins, so we won’t have to pay – Praise God for Jesus. Having Jesus represent us before God, assures us that we will be pardoned, as long as we put our faith in Jesus, and don’t blasphemy the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32) or disobey Jesus (Hebrews 5:9). Even though it is simple to be born again (Romans 10:9-10) by just believing in Jesus, and making Him your Lord, you must work out your salvation (Philippians 2:12), keeping your faith in Jesus and following the commands of Jesus and the Holy Ghost. Thank you Jesus for being our advocate with the Father.
