6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. - Heb 8:6-7 (KJV)

Jesus came to establish a New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:33-34) with mankind, and it is a much better covenant, as it is based on love (John 13:34), instead of works. The first covenant was just fine, but us humans could not fulfill it, so it just didn’t work for us. Jesus is now our mediator between us and God (1 Timothy 2:5), and that is wonderful news for us, as who could be better at reconciling us with the Father, then the Son could. Most churches have missed the New Covenant, and are still trying to teach keeping the law, for God to be pleased with us Christians, and they don’t realize that the Law (Old Commandment) is no longer in existence (Hebrews 7:18). I can’t see why anyone would want to work at keeping the law, instead of just loving others.

The problem with the Old Testament system of laws was that it was only good at telling us what we had to do, but not giving us the answers of how to do it, so it was just incomplete. If we could have been justified under the law, then we would not have needed a New Covenant to replace it. Only one man ever kept the entire law, fulfilling it completely, and that man was Christ Jesus (Matthew 5:17). The law was given only to point out that no man could ever fulfill it, and make us know that we needed a Savior, but no man could ever be saved by keeping the law except Jesus (Romans 3:19-20). Praise God for our New Covenant that we, who are born again, are now under – one of love.

5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. 6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

2 John 1 KJV
