7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. - 1 John 1:7 (KJV)

What is walking in the light? Well John tells us that God is light (1 John 1:5), so walking in the light is walking in God. Paul puts it as walking after the Spirit, instead of walking after the flesh (Romans 8:5-9). The bible uses light to represent God and good things, and dark to represent evil and bad things. Since darkness is actually just an absence of light, then we can say that evil is just the absence of God. Anyway, if we will walk after the Spirit, we will have fellowship with other Christians, as well as fellowship with Jesus and God, as that was what Jesus came to accomplish (John 3:16), eternal life (John 17:3).

If we do walk in the light, and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives, then we can be assured that the blood of Jesus will keep us clean. It is an absolute necessity that we follow the commands of the Holy Ghost, as if we don’t we are actually rebelling against God, and we must obey Jesus for salvation (Hebrews 5:9). Disobedience is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32), and can send a born again Christian to hell (see “New Revelations” page on our web site). Walking after the Spirit is to stay in the Word of God, as it is Spirit and Truth (John 17:17), so we need to study the Word, and live according to it’s commands. If we love Jesus, we will do as He has commanded us to do, and that includes all the works that He did while on the earth (John 14:12). Thank you Lord for giving us the light to walk in.
