September 24

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. - James 1:14-15 (KJV)

Notice that James says our temptations come from our own lust. This is so true that you first conceive temptations in your mind and emotions, and it is not something that just happens to you, but you must first think it in your mind. If we can control our thoughts, and not let them lust after things, and keep our emotions in check, we can get where we don’t get tempted much at all. The devil will see to it that you are enticed, and this world always tries to entice us with wanting new things, money, sex, greed, fame, etc. If a person just learns to control his thoughts and emotions, then you can always overcome temptation.

When you let your mind conceive lust for something, that is the beginning of sin, and if you entertain the thought, it will lead you to sin and sin will bring forth death. When the bible speaks of death, it is not just referring to physically dying, but it is meaning all sorts of disaster, like sickness, disease, poverty, jail, divorce, and all sorts of headaches and heartaches. The devil loves to tempt us, and he comes only to steal, kill and destroy us (John 10:10), so don’t fall for his lies and temptations. If you keep your eyes upon Jesus, and don’t let your mind lust after things, you will not have any condemnation (Romans 8:1), and Jesus will help keep you from sinning. If we all would just love one another, as Jesus commanded us to (John 13:34), then we would be letting our light shine, and the world would know that we belong to Jesus (John 13:35). Thank you Lord for giving us the law of love.
