I've kind of accepted him. By that I mean I think Jesus was infused with the light of God, and that his teachings are God's teachings to humanity, which passed through Jesus to us. I honor and respect Jesus for what he did and taught during his life, and for the legacy he left to us all. Do I think he was the "Only begotten son of God?" No, I can't really sign on to that one. I guess that puts me with the Musliims, who believe Jesus was an enlightened prophet of God. I believe that also. Do I think Jesus took upon himself all the sins of humanity when he died on the cross? No, not really. That sounds like fantasy to me. It's a nice story, but that's all it is, a story. Do I believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation, and if you don't "accept Jesus into your heart" you are damned? Well, sort of, in the sense that the teachings of Jesus are the way to salvation. But not Jesus himself. The teaching of Jesus live on apart from the man who was Jesus. If you accept his teachings, you will be a good human being in the eyes of the True God (who, by the way, is not the God of the Old Testament), and if there is indeed a heaven, you are a likely candidate. Do I believe Jesus knew he was the only true son of God? No, I think Jesus thought he was only one of the prophets, until the story that he was the son of God went to his head. Then Jesus started to believe it himself. He sent Judas to the priests so that he, Jesus, would be arrested, on the assumption that God would not allow him to be humiliated, tortured, or executed. Hence his surprise on the cross, when he asked, "Why, O Lord, have you foresaken me?" Jesus was just a man -- a very wise man, a very good man, but just a man. The Good News we should take from this is that we are all, potentially, Christs, because potentially we can all be as wise and as good as Jesus. Potentially. I believe Jesus himself said as much at one point, but I'm not going to bother looking up the quotation.
