12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. - Heb 7:12 (KJV)

Under the law that God gave through Moses, all the priests were to be after the order of Aaron, and only those priests could serve in the Temple of God. Paul is showing that Jesus was from a different tribe, and was made a priest after the order of Melchisedec (Hebrews 7:11), who was the King of Salem when Abraham took the spoils of war, and paid a tithe to him. This was before the time of Moses and Aaron, and so it was greater than the Aaron priesthood, and it was prophesied (Psalms 110:4) that this would happen. What Paul has been showing is that the priesthood of Melchisedec was greater than that of Aaron, and since the priesthood changed, the law also had to change.

When Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, who was of the Aaron line of priests (Luke 1:5), the priesthood changed and now the priesthood was after the order of Melchisedec. This meant that the law, given through Moses, was no longer in effect, and we now are under a new covenant (Hebrews 10:16-17), and God will no longer remember our sins and iniquities – praise God. Under this new covenant, we should not even be conscience of sin (Romans 8:1) anymore, and God’s laws have been written on our hearts (Jeremiah 31:33), so we know what is right and wrong. This is why no person will be able to claim that they didn’t know they were sinning, as God has put it into our hearts when we are born, and we know when we are sinning. Praise God for this new covenant, where we, who are born again, won’t have to answer for all our sins and iniquities. This doesn’t mean you can just go sin, and not pay a price, as the devil will do you in if you yield to him by sinning (Romans 6:16), and he comes only to destroy you (John 10:10). Praise God for Jesus!
