20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. - Prov 4:20-22 (KJV)
We are told to “attend to my words” as that is just saying listen carefully to my words, and act on them. It is just another way of saying to listen, and do, what I tell you to do. When it tells us to “incline” our ear, it doesn’t mean to tilt our heads, but is just saying to listen closely to what is being said. This is similar to what Jesus said a number of times (Matthew 11:15).
By telling us to not let the words depart from our eyes, it means to keep our minds focused on those words, and meditate on them at all times. By paying close attention to what is told us, and understanding what is said, then pondering on it by meditating on them, we get them in our hearts. A casual listening to words will not cause you to get them in your heart, and the devil will be able to steal the words from you (Matthew 13:19).
The words of God that we find, or know, will bring life (blessings), as well as health to us. What an amazing thing it is to just know that the bible, containing the words of God, will bring us life and health. Jesus died to bring us many grace blessings, as well as to heal our bodies (1 Peter 2:24). This is just another verse that verifies that Jesus died to bring us health, as Jesus was the Word (John 1:1), and He bore our sicknesses (Matthew 8:17). Praise God that we have been healed by God’s Word.
