5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 6 That the Gentiles should be fellow-heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: - Eph 3:5-6 (KJV)
The mind of man just can not understand spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:14), and it takes the Holy Spirit living in us, before we can grasp spiritual truths. Previous to Jesus coming to earth as a man, dying, then resurrecting, the Holy Spirit could only be with some of the prophets and Old Testament Saints, but did not live within them. Because the truths of God were spiritually discerned, it was only after the Holy Ghost was given to man (Acts 2:3-4), that we had the ability to understand the things of God, as God is a Spirit (John 4:24). All born again believers now have the Holy Spirit available to them, and with Him living inside us, we now can begin to understand the things of God.
The Old Testament Saints could never understand that Jesus would bring together all people, Jews and Gentiles, into one church body (Romans 12:5) – the body of Christ. Now that we, who are born again, are all brothers and sisters in the Lord, we no longer should have differences in our beliefs, as we all belong to Christ, and all together make up His body, the church (Ephesians 1:22-23). This also means that the Gentiles (non-Jews) are now partakers of all the promises made to the Jews, through Christ, by the Gospel. It is all the Grace of God that brought us together into one body, to all share in the wonderful promises that God has made to His people. Praise God for bringing us Gentiles into the body and making us His sons (1 John 3:1).
