20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. - Romans 3:20 (KJV)
This verse makes it very clear, that by following, and doing, the law of works to earn self-righteousness, no one can be justified and saved. Why then do the majority of churches teach the law? The term “law” is referring to all the commandments of the Old Testament (Exodus 34:28), of what a person has to do to be right before God. It consisted of thousands of rules and regulations, as well as commandments, and it was humanly impossible to keep them all. Modern day churches do not teach the same rules, but they teach that you must tithe, go to church, read the bible, etc., to be right with God, and that just is not true.
What the “good news” of the Gospel teaches us, is that Jesus kept the whole law and fulfilled it completely for us (Matthew 5:17), so that we do not have to do “works” to be right with God, but only have to put our faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Faith is what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6), and faith in Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). We therefore are justified by faith, without the works of the law (Romans 3:28). It is so much easier to just believe in Jesus, and put your faith in what He has done, than to try and earn your way to heaven, which no one can do. Jesus told us to learn of Him, and take His yoke upon us, and find rest to our souls, as His burden is light (Matthew 11:29-30). If you will give yourself to Jesus (Romans 12:1), you will fall in love with Him so much, you will do works of love, instead of works of the law. Why not rest in the Grace that Jesus brought to us, as that is the Gospel of Good News.
