17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. 18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. - Romans 14:17-18 (KJV)
Paul had been teaching not to offend your weak brother in Christ, by eating and drinking things that your brother thinks are offensive to God. The kingdom of God is certainly not in what we eat or drink, but the way that we love our brothers and sisters (John 13:34). Living a righteous life, and letting the peace and joy of the Holy Ghost live through you (Galatians 5:22-23), is the way that the kingdom of God is demonstrated by His believers in Christ. Jesus said that by loving one another is how the world will know that we are His disciples (John 13:35). We should never do anything to offend other Christians, and never do anything that would lead them astray, by what we eat or drink, or any of our actions.
If any brother or sister in Christ thinks that you should not eat or drink certain things, and they truly believe that action is offensive to Christ, then we should not ever do those actions around them. They are serving Christ the best they know how to, and that is acceptable to God. It really all boils down to us loving our brother as ourselves (Matthew 22:39), and in doing so, we will never purposely do anything to offend them. It is amazing how you can take almost all the teaching, throughout the bible, on things we should and shouldn’t do, and sum it all up in just showing God’s kind of AGAPE love to everyone. Just quit trying to please everyone by doing things, and just start loving everyone with this kind of unconditional love, letting your light shine (Matthew 5:16), and you truly will be a Christian (little Christ), as that is how Jesus is. Praise God for giving us His love (Galatians 5:22-23) to share with others.
