13 For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. Romans 2 KJV

14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: - Romans 2:14 (KJV)
This may come as a surprise to some, as the law was not for the Gentiles, as it was given only to the Jews. We, who are not Jewish, were never supposed to be under the law, yet most churches teach the law of doing things to please God. This was never intended, but all people know what is right and wrong, as God put that knowledge into the hearts of all people when they are born (Jeremiah 31:33). This is why our conscience lets us know when we do commit sin, as we know in our heart that it is wrong. So even the Gentiles were under the law, in a sense, as they had it in their hearts when they were born.
Many born again Christians still try to live under the law, and earn their own righteousness, thinking that is how to please God. Our own righteousness is like filthy rags to God (Isaiah 64:6), and we can never appear righteous before Him with our own efforts. The only way that we can be in right standing with God, is by accepting Jesus as our Savior, and He gives us His righteousness so that we can appear before the Father (Romans 10:3-4). For a born again believer to live by the law, is a sin, for the law is not of faith (Galatians 3:12), and what is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23). So those that are trying to work their way to heaven, are instead sinning, and appearing filthy in the sight of God. Just quit working for your salvation, and just accept the grace gift of love from Jesus, so that you will be righteous and saved – Thank you Lord for your gift of salvation.
