7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. - Romans 13:7-8 (KJV)
This verse makes it clear, that the Christian should pay his debts, including taxes and fees of all kinds, when they are owed. We also are to reverence and honor those that deserve it, and it should be without any type of hypocrisy. The way we live our lives as Christians should, in all respects, honor our Father, and we should never, not pay what debts we owe. It is not a crime to borrow money, but the Word makes it clear that borrowing is listed as a curse, and if God blesses us we should not have to borrow (Deuteronomy 28:12).
We, who are born again, should strive to not owe anyone anything, but just to love one another as Christ has loved us (John 13:34). Love is called the royal law (James 2:8), and how we love each other, reflects how much we love God, as He is love (1 John 4:8). It is amazing that Jesus was able to boil the whole law of thousands of rules, down to just two laws of love (Matthew 22:37-40), and as this verse says it fulfills the entire law given through Moses. Just think about the fact, we have been redeemed from doing, under the law, to just loving each other. Of course this is referring to God’s type of love (AGAPE), that is an unconditional love, and it is how God loves us. The only way us humans can show this kind of love, is to die to ourselves, and let Christ live through us, by staying in, and walking after, the Spirit. Praise God for giving us His love to share with others (Galatians 5:22-23).
