5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. - John 15:5-6 (KJV)
The bible uses the natural things of nature to illustrate many things, like the seeds we sow, and this illustration of us being the branches, and Jesus being the vine. We should not ever try to operate on our own, as like a branch, we need the vine (Jesus) to provide all our nourishment. If you are born again, you have Jesus living inside you (Galatians 4:6), and if you abide in Him, you will be able to produce much fruit. In our busy lives, many don’t think it is possible to always abide in Jesus, but you can by bringing every thought into obedience to Him (2 Corinthians 10:5). If we can go through the whole day worrying about a problem, then we can keep our minds upon Jesus all day. How true it is that we can do nothing without Jesus – but thank God I am never without Him (Hebrews 13:5).
The way that we abide in Jesus is to obey His commandments (Hebrews 5:9), and follow His direction given us through the Holy Spirit. Jesus has told us to love the Father and each other (Matthew 22:37-39), as well as to do the works that He did while on earth (John 14:12). If we are to work out our salvation (Philippians 2:12), then we must obey Jesus and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives, so we won’t be cast into the fire (Revelation 20:15). Even a born again Christian can be sent to hell, if they don’t follow the commands of the Holy Spirit, as that is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32), and you should read the web page “New Revelations” on our web site to get an explanation of this. Praise God for giving us His Word, and all the revelations.
