When I accepted Christ as a child it happened to me. It was an amazing experience. I don't even feel comfortable sharing it on here because it is real and those who don't believe, well, don't worry you won't ever have the gifts of the spirit if you don't believe. You can't understand something you don't believe in. It's not show me and I'll believe, it's supposed to be believe me and I'll show you. That's how God works.
Acts 2: 1-13
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b] 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
There were many gifts the disciples were given by the holy spirit in the early days of the church, by the folks who actually witnessed and were taught by Jesus firsthand. People seem to think it carries on to modern era. I don't disagree that miracles can and do still happen, but I don't see people going around ACTUALLY healing, and raising people from the dead, and (arguably) casting out evil spirits as Peter, Paul, and the other early disciples did. People today don't receive the holy spirit and the gifts that are spoken of in acts in today's era. It's not to say the holy spirit doesn't still work in our lives, He does. But in modern era, with the fullness of God's word readily available and understanding at an all time high that has never been accessible in any other time of history, the need for great miracles isn't as important as it once was to convince those who were not sure.
Luke 16:31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Thanks that was the answer I was looking for and I agree to miracles and gifts and are more of a biblical era thing than a 2020s thing because of what you said the information age.
Because it's biblical? Paul said in 1 Cor chapter 14 that he wishes they ALL spoke in tongues, that he speaks in tongues more than all of them, and not to forbid speaking in tongues.
It edifies the one doing it. (Many who oppose this doctrine focus on the fact that prophecy is a better, more desirable gift. Tongues is edifying!)

No it's not speaking in an unknown language is useless.
Please appreciate that the discussion has gone like this: I bring up what the Bible says and reference the source. You say "no."
You aren't willing to have your mind changed by the Word? Ok! That is, sadly, not uncommon these days (especially on this website).
Why not ask God, aloud, to show you insights from the Word, and then read chapter 14 while asking yourself "would THIS make sense if he were talking about a human language? A spiritual language?"
I'm going to still disagree speaking nothing is still speaking nothing.
Because sola scriptura makes you stupid. The gift of Tongues is where the Spirit allows one to speak in an unknown (but real human) language. Example: the book of Acts shows the Apostles speaking in a bunch of different languages they had no way of knowing.
Modern Pentecostals are either babbling gibberish at best or possessed at worst.
So you defend speaking in tongues but yet insult it ?
No, I defend what speaking in tongues actually is, as opposed to what people think it is. "Tongues" is better translated as "languages", not mindless babbling. The Apostles were speaking in actual, real world languages, not some sort of gibberish.
Okay now I get it
TWA OLLLS ALLLRRRITI OMEGONG RITI!!!
Thanks
That's a sad understanding!
1Cor14:2ff says that no one hears/understands the one speaking in a tongue. So what does that have to do with interpreting human language? I will pray with my spirit...
Why does every baptist?
You're thinking pentecostals bro. Also, btw, they're scary as fuck if you've ever seen them.
