12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. - John 14:12-13 (KJV)

What an awesome statement, that we who believe on Jesus shall do the works that He did. Notice it says we SHALL, not we CAN, and it is a command that we go and do the works that Jesus did, and even greater works. Wow – if we, who are born again, would just follow this command, and do the works that He told us to do, what a revival we would have. Notice that Jesus started the verse with verily, verily, which means truly, truly, and makes this verse a powerful statement, and one that we are to follow. Jesus hasn’t changed (Hebrews 13:8), so this verse applies to us today the same as it did when He spoke it. This means we are commanded to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, make the blind see and the deaf hear, etc. Let’s go and do it!

Jesus is saying that anything us believers shall ask in His name, He will do it, as long as it will glorify the Father. We can not ask just anything, as if we ask just to have it for our own use, it is asking amiss (James 4:3) to just satisfy our own lusts. When we do have a need for something that will glorify the Father, then we need to ask, as if we don’t ask we won’t receive (Matthew 7:7). Some try to believe for things just for themselves, but that is not what is being promised, as our asking has to be in accordance with the scriptures. God wants to give to us, as He delights in the prosperity of His servants (Psalms 35:27). Praise God for His goodness.
