17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. - Romans 8:17-18 (KJV)
What an awesome thing, to think that we, who are born again, are not only God’s children, but also heirs to all that God has. Because we receive the very spirit of Jesus to live within us when we are born again (Galatians 4:6), we are one with Him and joint heirs with Jesus – Wow! When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, and made Lucifer into Satan, and gave him control of this world, man was separated from God, as our spirit died. Now Jesus has come and brought us back into relationship with the Father (John 17:3), and also gave us His spirit so that we could share being heirs with Him. What a wonderful grace gift that was.
We only see darkly through a glass now (1 Corinthians 13:12) as to what we have in us, as we have the Glory of God in our born again spirits. Notice it says that this glory will be revealed IN us – not to us. Peter also mentioned the glory that is in us (1 Peter 5:1), and Paul talked about our inheritance and glory that is in us (Ephesians 1:17-18). Our salvation and forgiveness of our sins is wonderful, but to think of being a Child of God, and an heir of Him, is beyond our wildest dreams. God is so good to us, and it sure shows that He is truly love (1 John 4:8). Thank you Father for letting us, who believe in Jesus, be heirs with Him of all you are and have – Praise God.
