I am working through Matthew (KJV) and Jesus rebukes the Scribes along with the Pharisees and Sadducees. He mentions synagogues and "devouring the widow's house" (which I take to mean usury). Who are these groups? Are they what we now term Jews?

Jesus seems to be saying that both the temple and the gold sanctified by the temple are for "fools and blind". Is He referring to the synagogue and the Jews/rabbis?
