Daily Devotional

June 19

2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. - John 17:2-3 (KJV)

The Father gave Jesus power over all flesh, and because of this power, He was able to do all those miracles that He did while on the earth. Jesus also had the power to give eternal life to those that the Holy Spirit gave Him. This shows that Jesus GAVE us eternal life, and we did not EARN it by our works, as it was a gift of grace. No one can earn their own salvation by works that they do themselves (Romans 3:20), as we have all sinned and come short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23).

Us humans act like we are gods, and that we created God in our own image – NO. God created us in His own image (Genesis 1:26). We act like God is there for our pleasure – NO. God created us for His own pleasure (Revelations 4:11). We humans are so self-centered that we act as though the world revolves around us. We teach that God sent Jesus to die for our sins, so that we might be saved and not go to hell – NO. The reason that Jesus came to earth to die for us is so that we might again have fellowship with the Father (eternal life). It was not for us that Jesus came, but to bring us back from sin, so the Father could fellowship with us, for His pleasure. It is all about Him – not us. Jesus did do away with sin, as that is what separated us from the Father. The purpose that Jesus had in coming to earth was to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), so that the Father could again have a relationship with His children – Praise God for Jesus.
