Daily Devotional

June 12

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. - Romans 8:1-2 (KJV)

What a tremendous truth, and one that few Christians understand. The church tends to preach the law of what we must do to be right with God, and that brings condemnation to the believers. This should not be, as Jesus was condemned for us (Romans 8:3), so that we might not suffer any condemnation. If you are truly born again, you should not even have any conscience of sin anymore. The Holy Ghost, if you are born again, will convict you of sin, but not condemn you over it, as condemnation comes from the devil (Romans 8:34). A born again Christian is in the Spirit, but can still walk (live) after the flesh.

When we are born again, our old sin nature dies, and is replaced by the very Spirit of Jesus (Galatians 4:6), giving us a truly holy nature. This means that we now have our “want to” changed from wanting to sin, to wanting to be holy, as He is holy (1 Peter 1:15). This means if a Christian walks after the Spirit, instead of the Flesh, he will not feel any condemnation, and will not want to sin. Even if you are walking after the Spirit, you will still occasionally sin (1 John 1:8), as we are all still human, and can not help but sin. The best way to tell if you were truly born again is to look at your desires, and see if you want to live for Jesus, or want to continue in sin. Praise God for Jesus.
