Daily Devotional

June 3

8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. 9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. - Heb 13:8-9 (KJV)

Paul had just been teaching that we should follow the lifestyle of those that minister the Word of God to us and we should observe how they live their lives. Jesus does not change, and He is the same as He has always been, and will remain the same throughout eternity. Those that teach us the Word of God, should also be consistent in their lives, and not change, if they are truly representing God. What an awesome fact, as we can count on Jesus remaining the same toward us forever, giving us absolute faith in His love toward us. Praise God.

We are not to change our faith in Jesus, by getting into every fad that comes along, and changing with every new “thing” that is popular in religion. If you constantly change your focus, you will become double minded, and a double minded person will receive nothing from God (James 1:6-7). It is important that we let the fruit of the spirit lead us in life, and use our faith to keep us constant in our beliefs (Galatians 5:22-23). It is important that we not get caught up in the Old Testament Law, which had rules governing what we could eat, (meats), as they were only shadows of what we have now (Colossians 2:16-17). The Old Testament is important to study, as we learn what is pleasing, or offensive, to God, but we are not to live under the law anymore (Romans 3:28), but by faith in Jesus as our Savior. Praise God for Jesus.

31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
