33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. - 1 Cor 15:33 (KJV)

The bible uses the word “communications” to mean more than just what you say, as it means your way of life, or lifestyle. So this is saying that any evil, or wrong, way of living will cause others to also go wrong. We know that both life and death are in the power of the words we speak (Proverbs 18:21), but we need to be aware that the lifestyle of others that we are around, can cause us to fall into error ourselves. This becomes very apparent in church, as if you are believing the truth of God’s Word, and go to a church that is not teaching the truth, it can cause you to get into error, and fall away from the grace of God.

We need to be aware of the power we have in the words we speak, as the tongue is such an unruly member of our bodies, that no one can tame it (James 3:8). Keep in mind that Jesus said that we would have to give an account for every idle word we speak (Matthew 12:36-37), so we need to watch what we say at all times. If we would just understand that God created the whole universe by speaking words (Genesis 1), then we would begin to understand that we have great power in our words. It is not only the words we speak that are important, but also the words we hear. If we listen to idle, useless, vain words, we build up a large amount of unbelief in our hearts, and that unbelief will keep our faith from working for us (Matthew 17:20). Watch what you say, and what you listen to, so that your heart will stay sensitive to God’s small voice. Praise God for His Word, the bible.
