27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. - John 10:27-28 (KJV)
Jesus made this fact, of us knowing His voice, earlier in this chapter (John 10:3-5), and it is telling us that if we are His (sheep), we will hear His voice, and He will know us, and we will follow Him. If you are truly born again, and have the spirit of Jesus living inside you (Galatians 4:6), then you will hear His voice when He speaks to you, and you will always have the desire to follow Him. He does not always talk to you in an audible voice, but He will speak to you in your heart, and you will know His voice when He speaks.
When you are born again, you receive eternal life then and not just after you die. Most Christians think that eternal life means living forever with Jesus and the Father, but that is not what it means. We, who are born again, have eternal life in this life and not in the hereafter only. Eternal life is to know, (in an intimate way), Jesus and the Father (John 17:3). We also will never perish (be sent to hell), unless we reject our salvation (Romans 1:27-29), or go back under the law by trying to earn our own righteousness (Galatians 2:16), or by blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32), or refusing to obey Jesus (Hebrews 5:9). What a wonderful promise that no man can pluck us out of the hand of Jesus, and the only way we can get out is by our own effort. Praise God for such wonderful promises. I think I will choose to stay in His hand forever – Thank you Jesus!
