11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. - 1 John 5:11-12 (KJV)

Most people think eternal life is living forever, or living forever with God, but that is not what the bible calls eternal life. We all will live forever in one of two places, on the new earth with God and Jesus, or in the lake of fire. The bible tells us what eternal life is (John 17:3), and it is to know, in an intimate way, both God and Jesus. We have eternal life now, if you are born again, and not after we die and go to be with the Lord. This is the reason that Jesus came to die for us, not to forgive us of our sins, but to bring us back into relationship with the Father. He did away with sin so that we could have this relationship restored with the Father, and sin was what separated us from Him.

We who have the Son, have life, and if you are born again and made Jesus your Lord, then you have life. When the bible talks of life, it is referring to being alive in Christ, and being part of His body the church. When it talks of death, it is referring to being controlled by the devil, and reaping the destruction that he brings into your life (John 10:10). The only way to have life is through Jesus, as that is the only real way to live an abundant life. When you are a born again Christian, and live for the Lord, you experience the fullness of life, and reap all the blessings of God, given in His Word (Ephesians 1:3). When saved you get the fruit of the spirit in you (Galatians 5:22-23), and that is the only real way to have the peace and joy that God wants His children to have. Thank you Lord for all your blessings.
