When I was 12 my school handed out small Gideon Bibles that had a daily reading schedule, so that over the course of two years, you'd have read the whole NT. I read it twice. Got nothing from it. Fast forward 40 years, and the knocks and scrapes of life, and here I am - thoroughly disillusioned with the world (boo-hoo, woe is me lol).

So I bought a leather bound KJV red letter edition (Jesus's words are printed in red) and I am reading Matthew then will read Mark, Luke and John. With what I have learned through living, the Word is beginning to make sense. My impression is that Jesus is no softy - he rebukes and remonstrates, criticises and condemns, but at last I am starting to see the light of Christ.

It seems to me that by taking my fill of what this world has to offer - and being sickened with it and finally pouring it away - my cup is empty and ready to be filled with the love of the living Christ. At 12 I was not receptive. My mind was occupied with worldly things. At 52 I stand ready to reject this devilish world and surrender. Well, almost. It's not easy but I'm making a start.

Hallelujah!! Praise the Lord God Almighty! Praise the Lamb who was slain! Another soul has been saved from the gates of hell. I rejoice in hearing the testimonies of people being saved by Jesus. You are at the beginning of a new journey in Christ; a new man (2 Corinthians 5:17). I encourage you to stay steadfast in Him through the mountains and the valleys. If you ever have any questions about scripture, I'd be more than happy to share what the Holy Spirit has revealed to me about it. Just one note on Jesus condemning others. Jesus has not condemned anyone, but rather forgives any and all who come to Him with a contrite heart. Condemnation by Jesus is reserved for the Day of Judgement. Many blessings in Jesus Christ, my brother!

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

Praise the Lord another brother has been saved! An army is raising up, The Church is being raised up and made clean and white as a bride!

Hey thank you. I know that this path is hard. The more I read the Bible, the more the devil attacks me with his temptations and his degeneracy. I'm still one foot here and one foot there and the darkness calls ever harder for me as I seek the light.

The liberty in Christ comes from being able to say no to the world. Seek the Lord in every temptation and trial; for His strength is perfected in our weakness.

A friend recently gave his life to Jesus Christ, about 5-6 months ago, and had never read the Bible. He started with the NT first. He really enjoyed all of it. When he got to the OT (working through it now) he’s had a lot more struggle getting through it. We discuss it every week because the OT and NT showcase the totality of God’s character and complete understanding of His will. There are very difficult portions, and a lot of seemingly insignificant details; but they matter. The family lines are significant to understanding which remained righteous and which mixed with wickedness, as well as leading the righteous line all the way to Mary so she could birth our messiah.

Take it seriously, read diligently, and decide if/when you’re ready to kill off the old you. When that day comes, then you can find a river and baptize in the manner discussed in Matthew 3:13-16. You don’t need a church or anything fancy. It’s a public declaration of faith, so preferably there will be a couple witnesses. Just walk in, say a few words, and fully submerge yourself.

Just like Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch. See, here is water. What doth hender me from being baptized?.... And they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch. And he baptized him in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Welcome back bro, it's a liberating commitment. Had the revelation myself just last year.

I've been reading the Catholic daily readings for a few months now, they have been a great respite from ordinary troubles. Taking time to read the bible and pray has helped me a lot. I love the writings of John.

Thanks buddy. As it happens, it was an incredibly warm response from voat to a post I made when I was suicidal that drew me to the Bible. That was two years ago. Took me a while to tip-toe back to the Bible and venture into a church. I'm very lucky in that I live in a part of London that has dozens of churches and my nearest is a Catholic Church. What works for me is not "asking" God for help but thanking God for help I need which I "know" is coming. Subtle but effective. This is the "faith" I believe is spoken about.

[–] 4 pts

Yeah man, it feels silly to pray for myself, unless asking for stronger faith or forgiveness. I try to ballance prayer for something I want with simply giving thanks to God. I generally pray for others, and ask others to pray for me if I need help. I truly believe the prayers of others for me has saved my life before.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Same here.

I like to pray for others as they enter my thoughts and then let them know I’m thinking about and praying for them.

What works for me is not "asking" God for help but thanking God for help I need which I "know" is coming.

I continually tell people that God gave us free will. If God did things for us, that would negate our free will.

Instead, God gives us the knowledge, tools, abilities, and opportunities to do things ourselves. Our free will decides if we use what God has given each of us.

All of the bad things in the world are happening in order to wake us up. To show us that there is pure evil in this world, and that it must be stopped; we are shown the consequences of what will happen if we do nothing.

Because you have free will, God will give you numerous excuses and opportunities to sit back and do nothing as your people suffer. God will give you the path, the opportunity, to do nothing. He will also give you a path that allows you to fight, and help your people; your race. Your free will decides which path you will take.

We must earn our spot in his kingdom. Which means the righteous path will be the more difficult one; the one with the most sacrifice. There are many of us willing to walk alongside you on that difficult path of fighting to save our race, our people, our religion, and our way of life.

God has made it so that we can win; that we can end the suffering of our people. But our free will decides if we will win. If we take the difficult path filled with pain and suffering, or if we do nothing.

If you sit and do nothing, you will be left behind. But if you walk alongside us, you will not walk alone.

Yes brother. This I understand and thank you for your response. It is clear that this world is a world of suffering and pain. It would of course be helpful if God would ease our suffering from time to time.

Lol, pedophile apologist

Lol, wut? When did any of us condone pedophilia?

I've been reading the Catholic daily readings for a few months now,

Fuck the Catholic Church of Satan, and all of you that excuse it's systematic protection of child rapists. You're disgusting. Seriously.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

Amen. It's never too late to ask Jesus to forgive us. God has done great things with people who had a terrible past, like me.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Jesus Christ, Revelation 3

My impression is that Jesus is no softy

He's definitely not. In fact, he even appeared in the old testament to slaughter motherfuckers on the battlefield: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua+5%3A13-15&version=NKJV

Yikes. So Jesus comes with a sword? He doesn't just preach love and compassion; He comes to vanquish the dark forces.

[–] 2 pts

Satan was cast down to earth to rule. Jesus has come to earth not to bring peace, but to wage war against satan.

Once you understand that Christians are the soldiers sent to the kingdom of satan to wage war, you’ll understand the world much better.

The kingdom of God is Heaven.

Also explains all the suffering and answers the question as to why there is so much suffering on earth. Makes more sense if you first understand earth to be the kingdom of satan.

This is confirmed many times, but the story of Legion is very clear IMO.

Cross reference that part with Luke and you’ll see it also says division. That’s what a sword does, it divides things. When the world starts talking about unifying, one brotherly fraternity, one religion, one government, one with the earth etc. just know that Jesus wants the faithful to be separate. There is to be division from the world.

The sword that is referred to is the Word of God. Jesus never taught violence and opposed it many times. He tells us to love our enemies and do good to those that hurt you, bless those that curse you (Matthew 5:44), as well as, turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:39). For we wrestle not against the flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness in this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). I can cite many scriptures to verify this, but I will allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in all wisdom and understanding.

> Jesus never taught violence and opposed it many times.

Except of course when he initiated physical violence against the money changers, which isn't exactly just self defense and goes quite against the non aggression principle...

https://biblehub.com/john/2-15.htm

>So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.

Start overturning merchants tables in a middle eastern market, what are you likely getting into?

https://pic8.co/sh/4cYDDy.jpeg

That's right a fucking brawl

It's one man VS a couple of others, IMO it went quite physical that day in order to throw them all out of that place. Some resistance is to be expected, you're messing with a couple of men's business here... There's money on the tables...

Praise the Lord! I turned to The Word last fall during the slow-motion disaster that was the election, and it has been transformative. Where there was fear and helplessness in the world, now there is dignity and freedom in Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is going viral right now, for lack of a better phrase, and people will be (re)turning to him like never before

5 Chapters a day will get you through the entire Old Testament in less than a year.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

I find the OT turgid and inaccessible. Would it not make more sense to start with the NT? I like reading Jesus's words, the parables and so on.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

get a reference Bible. things said in the NT are references to others in the Old. prophecy and such.

[–] 1 pt

The Old Testament is all about the Law and the journey of God's people and His plan to rescue those that love Him. It also reveals the character of God and the many promises He has given us. It can be hard to understand at times and can also be used by the deceiver to make us question God. All of the Old Testament can be better understood with the foundation of love. The law is slowly fading away, as it is being replaced by grace and mercy for all who believe in Jesus Christ.

Personally I stayed in the NT for years. When you've finally got the New Covenant understood then you can start going back and seeing how the Old and New compliment one another. They all point to Jesus either way, but since we're under the New Covenant now it's important to fully understand how we are saved by Grace through faith.
