8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. - 1 Cor 13:8-10 (KJV)
Charity, or God’s kind of AGAPE love, never fails. When you operate in the love of God, you are operating in the power of God, as He is love (1 John 4:8). These verses are saying that the Spiritual Gifts will someday pass away, and many churches try and teach that the Gifts passed away with the Apostles, as they claim the bible is what it is referring to as “that which is perfect” in this verse. Although the bible is perfect, that is not what this is referring to, as it is saying that at that time all knowledge will pass away, and that is certainly not true today. The bible goes on to say that at this time we will see “face to face” that which is perfect (1 Corinthians 13:12), and that we at that time will know all things, even as we are known.
These verses are not saying that the Gifts passed away with the Apostles, but are saying that they will no longer be needed when we see Jesus (that which is perfect) face to face. When Jesus comes we will know all things, and there will be no need for all the Spiritual Gifts of the Holy Spirit. These very verses are assuring us that the Gifts of the Spirit will be necessary until the second return of Jesus. Those that teach the Gifts are no longer for us are just saying those things, because they do not have any of God’s power themselves, and are not operating in the Gifts. If Jesus needed the Gifts of healing, deliverance, prophecy, etc. (1 Corinthians 12:8-10), for His ministry while on the earth, then we need to be able to demonstrate this power in our ministries. You need to be full of the Holy Ghost, and flow in the Gifts, to be able to do the works that Jesus did, and commanded us to do (John 14:12). Praise God for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit!
