1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? - Romans 6:1-2 (KJV)

Paul was the one that God used to understand that salvation came by Grace and not by Works of the Law. When Paul, or anyone else, teaches the Grace of God as being the way that salvation comes to us, then it makes a person wonder if this means we can live in sin since our salvation is by Grace. Of course this is not what a Grace teaching means, but it does cause that question to come. Paul gives several reasons that we should not live in sin, but our works are not to earn salvation, as that is by Grace (Ephesians 2:5).

First of all, if you are truly born again, God has placed a brand new nature in you. You no longer have the sin nature that you were born with, but have a holy nature given to you through the new birth (Ephesians 4:24). Since your nature has changed, you should not want to sin anymore. Your new spirit does not ever sin (1 John 3:9), and it has been sealed (Ephesians 1:13) so that if a born again person does sin, it does not affect the new born again spirit. Also if you sin, you open up the door to the devil (Romans 6:16), and he will come in with sickness, poverty, and all kinds of evil, as he comes only to destroy you (John 10:10). So even though we are saved by Grace, through Faith (Ephesians 2:8), you need to live a holy life as much as possible to keep the devil from bringing his misery upon you. If you have no desire to try and live a holy life for God, then you probably were not truly born again. Thank you Lord for giving us power over the devil (James 4:7) in this life -–Praise God!
