39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. 40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. - Matt 10:39-40 (KJV)

These verses are telling us that when we live our life for self (find it), then we will lose our life. When we give our life to the Lord (lose it), then we will find our real life. This is just saying that we need to die to ourselves, and give our life to Jesus (Romans 12:1), who has purchased it on the cross. This doesn’t mean we have to actually physically die, but we do need to give ourselves wholly to the Lord by dying to ourselves. Once we are born again, we have our being in Christ (Acts 17:28), and the least we can do is to serve Him with all our efforts. We need to hate our life in this world, and love our eternal salvation (John 12:25).

Since Jesus lives within the born again believer, it means that how people treat us, is how they are treating Jesus. This truth is said many times in scripture, and makes it clear just how Jesus feels about those who reject His people (Matthew 18:5, 25:40, 25:45; Luke 9:48, 10:16; John 13:20). Anybody that says they love God, yet they reject or mistreat His people, are lying (1 John 4:20-21). You can not love Jesus and reverence God, while rejecting or mistreating those who are the temple of God. Jesus told us that people would know that we are His disciples when we love one another (John 13:35). Division in the body of Christ (the church), should not be, as if we truly love one another as Jesus commands, then we would not have any strife with other Christians. God is love (1 John 4:8), and if we are to represent Him properly, we will show this love to others. Praise God for all His instructions to us!
