19 We love him, because he first loved us. 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? - 1 John 4:19-20 (KJV)
What a marvelous truth, as God loved us, enough to send Jesus to die for us, while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8). This shows how much our Father cares for us, and it illustrates His AGAPE type of unconditional love, and proves that He is love (1 John 4:8). Us humans tend to love those that love us, and it is hard for us to comprehend this type of love. The bible calls this AGAPE type of love charity, and it has many godly qualities (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). All born again believers have this love in their new born again spirits, as it is part of the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). The only way you can show this kind of love to others, is to die to yourself, and let Jesus live through you, as He was a perfect example of God’s love.
You can not hate your brother, and still love God, as this verse says. The only way us humans can show God’s love to others is if we have received His love ourselves. Even though you may be born again, if you have never experienced God’s love toward you, then you will not be able to show it to others, as you can’t give away what you have never received. A lot of Christians have never truly experienced God loving them, making it impossible for them to love others with charity. Jesus said that the world would know that we are His disciples, if we show this love one to another (John 13:35). If you truly are born again, and in close relationship with the Father, you will love others even if they are not lovely, as that is how God loves us. Praise God for His unconditional love for us!
