10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; - Heb 10:10-12 (KJV)
Jesus didn’t just forgive our sins until the next time we sin, but He sanctified us and cleansed us from all our sins, past, present, and even future ones. This verse is not only saying He did it for all people, but for all times. It is fulfilling the prophecy in the Old Testament (Psalms 40:6-8), showing that the animal sacrifices were not what God wanted.
The Old Testament sacrifices could never really atone for the sins of the people, but were used to testify to the upcoming sacrifice that Jesus made for us. That is why the animal sacrifices had to be made continually, as they really never worked, but were just symbols of what was to come.
This verse shows that the sacrifice of Jesus took care of sins forever, for all people and for all time. By His sacrifice Jesus sanctified us, by forgiveness of all our sins, and once sanctified, we are perfected forever (Hebrews 10:14), in the sight of God. Jesus, through His death on the cross, has taken sin out of the way, and we should not ever feel condemnation over sin anymore (Romans 8:1). The teaching that you have to get every sin “back under the blood”, by confessing it, is not what the bible teaches. You should confess, and turn from any sin (1 John 1:9), but only because sin opens a door to the devil, and he comes only to steal, kill, and destroy you (John 10:10). Praise God for His sending Jesus to be our perfect Lamb of sacrifice!
