20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 5:20-21 (KJV)

God gave the law through Moses as a last resort, as He did not ever intend to have to give the law, but because of man’s sins, He had to give it (Galatians 3:19). The law was never given to provide us a way to salvation, but was given to make us aware of our sins, and to make us realize that we could never be holy enough on our own, to fellowship with God (Romans 3:23). The people who try to live by the law, will never be able to attain salvation through it, as no one can become righteous through the keeping of the law (Romans 3:20), but only by faith in Jesus. Jesus brought us the Grace of God, so that we might obtain salvation through putting faith in Him, as the Grace of God is so much greater than our sins.

When the bible speaks of death, it means all sorts of sickness, poverty, and all kinds of calamity, not just physical death. Our sins open the door to the devil and he comes only to steal, kill and destroy us (John 10:10). The Grace of God that Jesus brought us was His righteousness as a gift from God. So now, by believing in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we can obtain His righteousness and therefore have eternal life, which is fellowship with Jesus and the Father (John 17:3). The word “know” in this verse means more than head knowledge, as it is speaking of an intimate knowledge – otherwise experiencing something, not just knowing about it. So this means that we, who are born again, can experience knowing Jesus and the Father, and can fellowship with them on an intimate level. Praise God for giving us the Grace Gifts so that we can become His children, and truly experience Him!
