This is the staff of Hermes Trismegistus.

The caduceus ( Latin: cādūceus, from Greek: κηρύκειον kērū́keion "herald's wand, or staff") is the staff carried by Hermes in Greek mythology and consequently by Hermes Trismegistus in Greco-Egyptian mythology. The same staff was also borne by heralds in general, for example by Iris, the messenger of Hera. It is a short staff entwined by two serpents, sometimes surmounted by wings. In Roman iconography, it was often depicted being carried in the left hand of Mercury, the messenger of the gods.

As a symbolic object, it represents Hermes (or Mercury), and by extension trades, occupations, or undertakings associated with the god. In later Antiquity, the caduceus provided the basis for the astrological symbol representing the planet Mercury.

Thus, through its use in astrology, alchemy, and astronomy it has come to denote the planet and elemental metal of the same name. It is said the wand would wake the sleeping and send the awake to sleep. If applied to the dying, their death was gentle; if applied to the dead, they returned to life.

Hermes Trismegistus (aka Thoth) is a central figure to Hermeticism, Gnosticism, Kabbalistic Magic, Solomonic Demonic Sorcery, and last but certainly not least, Freemasonry.

The further back you go, the more this symbol and its "god" is revealed. In ancient Sumer, and Babylon, before it was Hermes or Thoth, it was Ningishzida.

Ningishzida is a Mesopotamian deity of vegetation and the underworld. Thorkild Jacobsen translates Ningishzida as Sumerian for "lord of the good tree". (Interesting..)

In Sumerian mythology, he appears in Adapa's myth as one of the two guardians (Michael and Lucifer) of Anu's celestial palace (heaven) alongside Dumuzi. He was sometimes depicted as a serpent with a human head. Also as a man with twin intertwining serpents coming out of "his" shoulders..

In some texts Ningishzida is said to be female, which means "Nin" (Ninevah) would then refer to Lady, which is mostly how the word is used by the Sumerians. HE or SHE was one of the ancestors of Gilgamesh... aka Nimrod, Osiris and Apollyon.

It's also about the law of polarity, and the middle path. The shape of the snake tighter over lap at the bottom and further at the top are spaced as if the snakes a wrapped around the chakrahs. Also kinda reflected in our own vascular system. Law of polarity is everywhere in our realm. It's how we can have our existence. It's also written that Abraham was a student of Hermes trismegistus.

It's really not a Satanic symbol. It's a power symbol. It represents balanced forces in harmony with one another, and the spiritualization of sexual energy. The snake is always a sexual symbol. The winged globe is a spiritual symbol. The two snakes -- balanced opposites -- climb the staff to reach the sphere. Physical energy is sublimed into spiritual energy.
