It's interesting to read this along side Romans. When you realize that, by the law, all men are condemned because the law was never meant to save us in the first place, you realize what Jesus is actually say is that he IS here to uphold the law: That the law is there to show man just how sinful he is. The ONLY hope you have is faith in Jesus Christ, just as how Abraham's faith was counted as righteousness to him
Nice observation, Frog. In the Jewish tradition they do an annual spring cleaning just before the Passover. They have to remove all leaven from their home, down to every last crumb. Most do it without understanding the significance. No matter how much time you spend cleaning, there will always be a few hidden crumbs. Your house will never be leaven free. We are not saved by works; but by faith alone.
The Passover lamb is our Messiah, the feast of unleavened bread is His death, and the feast of first fruits is His resurrection. His sacrifice, for us, allows us to serve God instead of mammon. The Holy Spirit allows us to keep His commandments and walk with Him in the spirit. Something the works of the flesh cannot produce.
Valid point that I think gets too overlooked. The law is our mirror. Each day we should gaze into law so that we may see our imperfections and know where we need correction.
