9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. - 1 John 4:9-11 (KJV)
What an example of love – that God sent His only Son into this world just to bring us back into fellowship with the Father and Son (John 17:3). Our love for God is easy to understand as He is our Creator, and has blessed us with so much (Ephesians 1:3), that we should love Him. His (AGAPE) love for us is hard to comprehend, as we did nothing to deserve His love, yet He loved us enough to come die for us – WOW, now that is truly unconditional love. Us humans would hardly die for someone we love, and surely would not die for someone that didn’t love us.
We can love God because He first loved us, by sending Jesus to die for us. Jesus was sent to earth to show the love of God and He did so in all His actions. He was a perfect representation of God, who is love (1 John 4:8). Jesus not only died for us, but He took on all our sins, gave us His righteousness, gave us all the Spiritual Gifts, defeated the devil and gave us dominion over him (James 4:7), and made us part of His body by giving us His very Spirit to live within us (Galatians 4:6). What kind of love is that?
Since God loves us so very much, we should love others with the same kind of unconditional love. Humans tend to only love others that love them, and deserve their love. We, who are born again, should die to ourselves and let Jesus live through us – then we will be able to show the God kind of love that is in our spirits (Galatians 5:22-23) to others. We can not show that kind of love to others unless we have been born again, and received it in the new spirit within us. Praise God for His wonderful love for us, even though we don’t deserve it!
