This is excellent and ties into the OT beautifully. Manna (man hu) means “what is it?” as they didn’t know what the bread was. They murmured against God because they weren’t satisfied with the daily gift and hungered still.
As Moses went up Mt Sinai, Israel was in the wilderness of Sin (they left Goshen on the 15th day of the 1st month, and arrived at Sin the 15th day of the 2nd month) and within the 40 days of Moses being up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, thus marking the Covenant between God and his people; they erected the golden calf and broke the Covenant.
Jesus was baptized and went to the wilderness (same wilderness of Sin) for 40 days (the same amount of time that Israel broke the Covenant), and was even tempted to make bread (same test on account of their murmuring). Man cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. (Manna and the commandments) He righted all the wrongs they committed in order for a new Covenant to be established. Just like the days of Moses: they saw Jesus and didn’t recognize Him. They likely asked “man hu?”
Even the fact that Jesus was 30 when this occurred; Ehpriam left 30 years too soon. He had to be baptized before the spirit came down from heaven like a dove. Fascinating.
Truly something to chew on! Manna was certainly the typical foreshadowing of the Savior to come.
Another significant clue is that Jesus remained on earth with His apostles for 40 days after the resurrection. This seems to be a prophetic time period that is in reverse, reflected in the past:
Exodus 16:35
“And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.”
Prophetic time: a day for a year principle.
