I hate the "begats." Of all the passages of the entire Bible, these are the most stupifyingly boring. This chapter is about the story of Babel, where God comes down and confounds the language to prevent mankind from becoming too wise and powerful. It can be understood as a fable to explain where there are so many different languages in the world. Or it can be understood in a Gnostic way, as the malice of the Demiurge against the sons of Adam. Personally, I want to become like the Most High. I mean, who wouldn't?
It seems obvious to me, when Man was making a tower trying to exalt himself before the heavens that YHWH confused their language to show they are but men and they are meant to worship him and not themselves. "You should have no other gods..." God hates idol worship more than anything.
