Daily Devotional

January 2

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. - Col 3:13-15 (KJV)

Forgiveness is completely necessary in the Christian life, as God has forgiven us, and we must forgive others. If you do not forgive in your heart, all that sin against you, then God will not forgive you when you sin against Him. The bible makes it clear, that if you don’t forgive others, you will not be forgiven (Matthew 6:14-15).

When the bible talks about charity, it is referring to God’s kind of (AGAPE) love, which is an unconditional kind of love. The reason that this kind of love is so important is that God is love (1 John 4:8), so if you have God living in you, then you will let His kind of love flow through you to others. If you cannot give unconditional love to others, then you are not walking in the spirit, or have not been born again.

The peace of God in your heart can act like an umpire. How many times have we felt we should do one thing, but our reasoning has led us to do something else? When our plans fail to succeed, we then say, “I knew I shouldn’t do that”. That was the peace of God telling us what we should do, but we don’t always listen. A Christian, who has the Holy Spirit living in them, can listen to this peace in their hearts, and God will lead you to do His will, and it will work out for the best. Thank you Lord for the guidance of the Holy Spirit!
