Daily Devotional

December 28

2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; (Ephesians 4:2 KJV)

This verse is giving us four traits’ the Christian should exhibit. The first is lowliness, and it means having a humble opinion of yourself, not thinking you are more than what is true, or thinking you are less than what is true. This means just seeing yourself as you really are.

The second is meekness, which means kind and gentle. If you have your heart full of God’s love, you will have this. If you love others as yourself, like Jesus told us to (John 13:34), then you will exhibit meekness.

The third is longsuffering, which means patient endurance, or showing patience over a long period of time. This means you will not be fast to react to people, but always be slow to anger (Proverbs 15:18) or get impatience with them.

The forth is forbearing, which is being tolerant and patient with people, and showing restraint in your dealing with them.

Jesus was the perfect example of all these traits, and if we truly want to be like Christ, then we will show these same traits in our dealing with people. It all boils down to letting Jesus live, not only in us, but also through us, at all times, by drawing on the Fruit of the Spirit within us (Galatians 5:22-23). The Christian walk is not easy to do, unless you can truly die to yourself, and let Christ live through you, as only He can exhibit these traits by His very nature. Praise God for Jesus!
