23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. (1 Corinthians 7:23 KJV)
Were we ever bought with a price, as if you read what Jesus paid for us, you will know that the price He paid was tremendous, and all His suffering, pain and death, was the price required by God for us to be saved from our sins. I have never read anything that would come close to the price paid by Jesus for us, as He not only suffered physically, but He took on all our infirmities and bore all our sicknesses (Matthew 8:17), and actually became sin for us, so we could become the righteousness of Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). What a trade - our sins, for His righteousness. Wow! Who else but God would do such a thing? What tremendous love God has for us – to send Jesus to die to bring us back into fellowship with Him (John 17:3). It is hard for us humans to understand this kind of unconditional “AGAPE” love that our Father has for us. It is sure different from the worldly love that we are accustomed to. Praise God that He does love His children enough to die for us!
We are not to be servants of men, but we owe it to be the servants of God, as He paid the price that we couldn’t pay, for the salvation that we couldn’t earn ourselves. The bible teaches that we should be a living sacrifice for the Lord (Romans 12:1), as it is the least we can do to pay Him back for what He has done for us. If you are truly born again, you have the very Spirit of Christ living inside you (Galatians 4:6), and you should want to live for Him, and must obey Him to assure your eternal salvation (Hebrews 5:9). This doesn’t mean that you have to be sin free, as we all come short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23). But it means you should want to live as holy as you can, not to gain anything from God, but just because you love Him, and want to live for Him. If you live holy to try to earn favor with God, it is works of the law, but if you try to live holy because you love Him, then it is works of faith, and pleasing to God. Fill yourself with the love of God, and you will try to live holy for Him, but not be condemned when you fail. Thank you Lord for loving us so very much – Praise God!
