Merry Christmas!
December 25
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:10-14 KJV)
This is the greatest miracle that has ever been, as Jesus was born by a virgin (Luke 1:27), whose Father was none other than God Himself (Luke 1:35). So Jesus was God in the flesh, and came to earth to bring us human’s back into relationship with the Father. These verses are often quoted at Christmas time, but are not always thought about as to their meaning. Jesus was the perfect man, sinless, holy, and just, and His coming to the earth was the greatest gift us humans could ever wish for. People who don’t recognize Him as their Savior, are missing out on Salvation, and getting to go to Heaven, besides all the benefits that He brought to us in this life, mainly the bringing us back into fellowship with the Father (John 17:3). Believe and receive your Salvation (Romans 10:9-10)! Keep your faith in Jesus, and obey Him to assure your eternal salvation (Hebrews 5:9).
Notice that Jesus was Lord at birth and not just a prophet as some teach - He was God with us (John 14:9), and brought us our Salvation. The phrase “and on earth peace, good will toward men” has been interpreted as saying that Jesus was bringing peace among men, but that is not what it was saying. This was announcing that there was now peace between God and man, as the war that had raged between God and us was now over, and Jesus reconciled us to the Father again. Jesus Himself said that He did not come to bring peace on earth, but a sword (Matthew 10:34), so it is obvious that this is talking about peace between God and man.
This Christmas we need to all stop and thank God for bringing Jesus to us, and reconciling us to Him again. This is the greatest gift that anyone could ever receive, and please don’t just read these verses, but stop and think about them. Be sure and thank God for His Son coming, and although we don’t know if this is really the day Jesus was born, it is the day we celebrate it. We can thank God for sending Him, and allowing us back into fellowship with Him. Thank you Father and Jesus for your mercy and all your blessings. Praise God!
