I've either gone mad and incapable of peeling a hard cooked egg or the factory farm quality egg has drastically changed. Whenever I hard cook eggs I find them nearly impossible to peel- even under running water. The shell shatters into tiny pieces and the membrane between shell and egg sticks to the egg and doesn't come off. I've thrown away lots of eggs cuz of this. Must be the way chickens are being fed or forced to overproduce...drugs and whatnot to make them bigger and lay more...

I've been forced to buy better eggs at twice the price. But the yolks are golden too, so ...worth it.

I am fortunate to live near a family-run independent store which carries fresh eggs from multiple local farms. Yeah they cost 2 to 3 times as much, but each egg is still under 50¢ and there is such a huge difference in quality that I feel it's worth it, and my money stays closer to home.

Sounds like industrial efficiency affects the price more than shipping expenses.

Haha, no doubt. I feel like a doddering old fool trying to peel and egg. "Why in my day I could peel and egg in less than 30 seconds!"

That might actually mean they're "too" fresh. If you get another dozen like that, keep some for over a week or two and try them then again, to see if there's a difference.

Even with super fresh eggs I have found that cooking them in a pressure cooker makes the easiest peels ever, those eggs just slide out of the shell.
