If you search back yard chickens there is a guide on what killed my chickens. Different animals have different methods, leave different clues. It’s pretty accurate and will help you target defense against future attacks.

First question is do they have a secure coop that you close every night?

I've been using a few of the duke DP dog proof coon traps with great success, they don't seem to figure these out and don't avoid them. I bait with a bit of oatmeal cream cakes.

Make sure you stake the traps pretty deep, coons are strong for how small they are.
