I got one shy of a dozen yesterday :)

That's awesome. I hope you have an army to feed. At our normal non-dead of winter egg output of 6-8 a day we end up giving away about a dozen a week. One of these years I would like to up the amount of chickens we keep to get to that plateau where butchering for meat is practical and that sort of thing. Towards that end I am considering making or building an incubator this spring.

haha yeah, i ordered 25 hens from the hatchery last may bcuz it was the same price as ordering 15.

And I adopted an 18mo old rooster of the same breed, so come this spring, i will be in the market for an incubator as well.

I'm gonna try marketing my eggs online as super exscluive "beyond organic," and try to sell em $12 a dozen including delivery, lol.

Thinking about fabricating one out of an old cooler- cutting in a view window. I have both aquarium heaters and an old electric hot water heater thermostat. I may just roll with the aquarium heater/water in bottom way. Easier. And you have the moisture aspect covered, as to where the light bulb/thermostat type of heating you have to try to add moisture with wet towels and such. Seems an 1/12" or so is plenty of water, and just shield the heater from the cooler with a tile or shroud it somehow. Then just build a rack above- I am thinking wood slats. Should make the turning process a bit more orderly with slats to hold them. I read about this a couple years ago- I recall people were saying 3/4 is about the most you want between slats.

And- In theory you can make a few coins selling eggs. We just give the excess away when we are swimming in eggs. No shortage of friends who want them. I also give some to the trash guy now and then, that sort of thing.

You could store those eggs. We use “water-glassing”. We store 10 dozen per 5 gallon bucket. We have used them for cooking, but mostly feed the flock when they need more protein.
