At this point, if you're using paypal, you deserve what you get.
What would you recommend for modern commerce? I have basically all accounts just so I can make sure I get paid. I don’t leave funds in accounts like PayPal and I don’t have a credit, debit or checking account attached. I would never leave $9,000 in there. Set it up to dump your balance minus whatever percent you keep on there for refunds. Have it dump to another account which is in between your checking account and PayPal. That way the man in the middle only knows you get deposits from PayPal. They don’t know what for so there’s nothing for them to be offended about then attach those feels to fine print on page 366 of the terms and conditions.
There are no good options if you're speaking against the narrative. Paypal, however, is the worst of the worst, and has been for most of it's life.
The amount of times it's just flat out stole money is absurd at this point
Meh. I’ve been using PayPal for 15 years or so. Only a few issues that really related to how eBay was operating (even worse now that they manage payments differently) and a time when 2 days before a fucking Hurricane, an Indian programmer I’d contracted for several jobs decided he’d trick me into typing in my credentials on a phishing site hosted on my own server. That was back in 2004. Got me for a couple grand. PayPal got it back to me while I was evacuated for the hurricane. Not too bad.
But everyone’s mileage varies.
