Apparently there is an open source distributed and self hosted search engine project: https://yacy.net/ You just download the java binary and start the server. I haven't used it yet so I don't understand how it works fully but apparently: * You start the server on your computer * Use your browser to connect to it locally and search the web. * You can configure the server for things like storage and web crawling. It will your local storage for the p2p mesh data in some manner but I am not certain how this works. Gab was also hiring search engineers a few months ago. Search is dead. The distributed model going forward is going to be the way.
