How is that persons arms not getting shredded into bloody ribbons?

You’re supposed to ease the cat into it by letting them play with the water a bit. Make it really shallow and rub a bit on their paws, then put a little on your hands and gently pet them with it.

If you do that, you’ll usually have them calm enough to not freak out from the bath.

Yeah, that’s fair. I used to eat quite a lot of it back in the day.

Why bathe a cat? They are able to lick themselves clean pretty well

Sometimes they get themselves really messy. I once had an old cat that had trouble going to the bathroom... you can imagine why I had to clean her up.

You're not supposed to use boiling hot water when you fill it with the cat in there.
