How does it not demontrate it? Jesus clearly states that his followers are his family, NOT his mother, brothers, or anyone else that the world considers his "family". And more to the point, if she was so important, why would Jesus himself shun her for his followers? Not because he's not honoring her as you suggest, but because she is simply a woman. A woman who was favored and blessed to carry Jesus, but not because she carries any other form of ability or intercession for sinners. Or are you implying that Mary holds the power that our Father has?
