Just saw this. Holy shit. I feel like this warrants a statement from @Carnold03.

Thanks for the mention, but I was unaware that I was appointed representative of the holy see here on Poal. Speaking as a layman, as far as I understand an organized concern for the habitat isn't entirely unreasonable. However, the mission of the Roman Catholic Church is to help maintain Christian focus on the spiritual, not the worldly.

You always seem to have an enlightening answer to the questions I have concerning Catholicism. Also you don't seem to get mad at me for being an ignorant outsider to the religion. And you are /s/Catholicism's main contributor, so y'know.

I mean who knows maybe this proposed addition to the catechism is just about caring for the environment. But among the context of these modern trends and some of Pope Francis' other remarks it's hard to take it on faith that it's going to be about caring for the world in general and not something that's specifically aimed at greenhouse gas emissions from European countries.

Ignorance is a temporary state of being, one that you possess the power to overcome especially thanks to resources like the internet. All that is needed is for an individual to invest the time and energy to seek to be educated on a subject of interest. To that end let me give you a link to the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church and it's associated compendium (vatican.va) available for ready reading in every major language from the Vatican website. If you would like a torrent link to a *.pdf copy, by all means let me know.

While I have no problems with the current Pope encouraging Christians to be more diligent stewards of their habitat, it is dwarfed by the fact that the Roman Catholic Church's mission of saving souls from hell and eternal damnation. That makes it vastly more encompassing an entity than ecology focused non-profit organizations like the Arbor Day Foundation.
