It's a shame that Subarus have the stereotype that they have, they are really good vehicles, though I am not too sure that applies to the current generations.
Agreed. Their long running opposed 4-cylinder engine goes forever and is easy to repair by a home mechanic. I had the classic head gasket blowout on one (2004 Forester) a few years ago and it was like repairing a lawn mower, done in only a few hours with no special tools other than a torque wrench.

I was sad when some dreg with no license or insurance t boned me and totalled it.
I do wish they would ditch the CV transmission though. That was the only thing that went wrong with my 2011 Legacy and it wasn't even a major issue.
