Best car I've owned was the 1988 Ford Ranger XLT I bought right out of college. I put 270,000 miles on it over 16 years, and other than consumables (brakes, clutch, tires, etc), the only issues I had with it were the weak head bolts they replaced gratis at year 3. Inline 4 cylinder with throttle body fuel injection and a 5 speed manual transmission. Would do 80 mph reliably and frequently - didn't ride too badly either.
