Some plastics are made better than others. I've seen it firsthand. My '01 Focus had original headlights for a decade before they fogged up. So I replaced them with a China knockoff that looked great out of the box and fit perfectly. They went yellow and started cracking like a year or two later.
For $38 fucking but two. When one fails replace after 4-5 years of use if plastic “fails” I’ve never seen plastic magically just disintegrate unless you hit it.

Buy it from China, install it on the front of your car, and drive said car for a year or two. It is shit plastic.
It was a tail light. Still for $38 if it was a headlight, it’s not worth polishing if you can buy an entire assembly for less than than the materials, before labor.
